Semantic Data Engineer

A leading research institute in Prague, Czechia, named after Nobel laureate in Chemistry J. Heyrovský, is seeking a highly motivated Semantic Data Engineer for the Department of Biophysical Chemistry.

Employment type:  0,5-1,0 FTE

Starting date: 01. 01. 2027

 

Job description 

Prepare research and industry processes conceptualisation into schemas and semantic patterns, transformation into-machine-readable formats (JSON schemas and SHACL), containerisation into RO-Crates, semantisation with controlled vocabularies and ontologies. 

 Specific tasks:

  • identify the concepts, entities and relationships of research workflows and data analysis;
  • develop reusable semantic patterns and data models;
  • translate these models into practical metadata structures in machine-readable forms (e.g. JSON Schemas);
  • connect repository metadata with vocabularies, ontologies and emerging community standards;
  • contribute to the development of interoperable research data infrastructure at national and European level. 

 

Required Qualifications 

Experience with semantic technologies and semantic web – especially linked data concepts (RDF, SPARQL) and principles of semantic assets (ontologies).

Ability to convert unstructured data into a machine-readable/actionable data structure (i.e. non-relational database).

Knowledge of linked data RDF serialisations (TTL, JSON-LD) and metadata validation (SHACL).

Basic knowledge of data structures in Python, basic skills in Git.

Work in an international team, English (B2 or equivalent). 

PhD or equivalent degree in a relevant field.

 

Preferred skills 

Creative thinking, systematic working habits. Experience with Horizon Europe projects and cross-boarder teamwork.
